Transhumance

Is a practice by the nomadic herdsmen (e.g. Fulani cattle-rear) that involves moving from place to place in search of pasture/fodder and water for their animals. It may also be used to avoid incidences of diseases, pests and weather conditions that could harm the animals; e.g. the movement from wetter to drier regions and the movement from very cold and harsh conditions to warmer ones. The system is primitive and unsustainable as both man and his livestock are exposed to pest, diseases and the vagaries of the weather.
