Shifting Cultivation

It is the movement of a farmer from one piece of land to another after years of cultivation, as a result of soil degradation associated with soil mining. It is responsible for almost 70% of deforestation in Tropical Africa, and together with the relate bush-fallow slash-and-burn cultivation system, disturbs more land than is actually needed for farming. It is primitive and unsustainable; because it promotes soil mining and is largely not commercially oriented.
